Hi, my name is Carsten. I am from the United States, where I earned two Bachelor’s degrees: one in Economics (Georgia State University) and another in French Literature with a minor in Spanish (University of Georgia). I was awarded a Master’s degree in American/English Studies by the University of Lille, where I also worked as a lecteur d’anglais, actively teaching English to hundreds of students.
My teaching experience includes:
- One year at the ISTC of the Catholic University of Lille
- Courses for law students at the Catholic Institute of Toulouse
- IELTS preparation in Greece, where my student achieved a very high score
- Teaching in two frontistiria in Crete, with children aged 8 to 16
As both a teacher and a writer, I have corrected thousands of essays and engaged with academic research at the postgraduate level, often reading and editing papers in fields such as science, psychology, and classical studies. I am therefore well placed to help Master’s and doctoral students refine their academic English and produce stronger work. While I give lessons only in person, I am also available to correct research papers from a distance.
I give lessons at the student’s home, in a library, or in a café, and I have a driver’s license and car, which makes me flexible across the Thessaloniki area.
My rates are structured according to the type of lesson:
- General English, with a personalized program of study: €20 per hour
- Exam preparation (IELTS, Cambridge, TOEFL): €25 per hour
- Homework support with student-provided materials: €15 per hour
- Children with learning difficulties: €30 per hour
- Academic writing corrections: €5 per page (minimum €100, payment in advance)
- I offer French lessons for €15 per hour and Spanish for €10 per hour
- Reduced rates available for undergraduate students and unemployed adults
